Executive

Role

President (1950-1972), then chairman of the board (1972-1976), 1950–1976
Source · medium confidence. Wikipedia's lead gives president 1950-1972 and chairman 1972-1976, but its body says he retired as chairman emeritus in 1975. The Handbook of Texas (opened 2026-10-18) says he joined his father's store in 1926 as secretary and treasurer, that his son Richard became president in 1972, and that Stanley retired in 1975; Encyclopedia.com (also opened) agrees on 1926 and says he started as a floor man in the apparel departments, was a director, secretary and treasurer by 1928, and gives conflicting retirement years (1974 or 1979). The 1972 presidency handoff and the 1975 retirement are consistent with Wikipedia's 1950-1972 presidency; the 1976 chairman end date is Wikipedia's alone. A claim that he started as a stockboy in 1925 does not appear on Wikipedia's Stanley Marcus page. Wikipedia also says he stayed involved as an advisor until his death.
