Founder and chief executive officer, 1962
Source · high confidence. Wikipedia dates General Motors' controlling-interest purchase of EDS to 1984 and says Perot sold the rest in 1985. UPI's December 2, 1986 report (opened 2026-10-18) says GM ousted Perot, then GM's largest shareholder, as chairman of EDS and paid about $700 million for him to leave the GM board; it does not say the payment bought EDS stock. So the 1986 payment is best read as buying out his GM holding (he received GM stock in the 1984 deal), and the two sources are not fully reconciled on when his EDS stake ended. The exact month he left EDS was not found.
