· high confidence. Family Wealth Report (October 9, 2009, citing a Reuters-obtained letter) says he would retire as chief executive on January 1, 2010 and remain nonexecutive chairman, which squares with Wikipedia's 'retirement in late 2009' (the announcement) and with Fortune's 2024 obituary ('stepped down as CEO in 2010 and as chairman in 2021'). Fortune does not mention the interim chairman role; the Wikipedia Renaissance page says non-executive chairman until 2021. A Wilmott profile reportedly says 2019 for the chairman exit (seen only in a search result, not opened).
